The Sociology of Science and Technology Network (SSTNET) held its inaugural meeting at the 4th Conference of the European Sociological Association (ESA) in Amesterdam, August 19, 1999. SSTNET is an approved "research network" (a section) of the ESA. It is Research Network 20 (RN 20).
Members of the initial coordination board (August 1999 through September 2003) were:

Maarten Mentzel (SEPA, University of Technology Delft, The Netherlands)
Luisa Oliveira (DINÂMIA/ISCTE Lisboa, Portugal)
In the sixth Conference of the European Sociological Association (ESA) in Murcia, August 24 September, 2003 a new new board was elected. Sven Hemlin and Aaro Tupasela replace Marja Häyrinen Alestalo and Maarten Mentzel who together with Raymund Werle initiated SSTNET in 1999 and served on the board for four years.
