The market of public research in Portugal
With basis on the results of science-based sector monographs (pharmacy and telecommunications) concerning different European countries — England, France, Austria, Germany and Portugal - we present in this paper the main specificities of the public research "market" in Portugal, by the characterisation of the links among the main actors that are supposed to be involved in this process.
This research led us to the identification and description of "Portuguese dilemma", which is used to put further new questions. One of them concerns the way that commercialisation of science has been discussed (public/private science). Another question concerns the impact of commercialisation on the stratification of institutions - including universities - within countries and among them.
