CHANGING ROLE OF SCIENCE IN THE ERA OF GLOBALIZATION

One of the central problems in the late Modernity studies (A. Giddens, U. Beck, S. Lash, etc.) is global change in social role of science. There are some social schemata of representing scientific inference. These schemata do reflect the place of scientific institutions within the juxtaposition of social forces. One of these schemata implies the inversion of political: non-political becomes political. Science as social institution and epistemic community appear to be one of the most powerful players in the field of sub-politics. While the traditional institutions of democratic society (parliament, political parties) loose there positions, science becomes the most important subject of principally unpredictable and potentially dangerous changes, for example, ecological catastrophes.

Catastrophes of pre-Modern era were rather natural thing however today they turn into global political events, evolving unpredictable chain of consequences in social, political, scientific and aesthetic fields. So the science as a means of risk prevention (as in Modernity era model) turns into a strong factor of their appearance and legitimating.

Existing schemata of representing scientific inference and scenarios of further development are considered in some aspects: interaction between science and state; interaction between science and civil society; interaction between science and private sphere; interaction between science and means of mass communication.
